@chris2k13 try disabling EasySocial, and login using a normal joomla login form. (and same with @messagedj).
Problem seems to be EasySocial. It hasn't been updated in 2 years, and its JED listing doesn't indicate any compatibility with J5, so that's is probably where the problem is; it's not designed to work with J5.
(I don't know under normal circumstances if EasySocial allows email-as-username but Joomla doesn't without additional plugins.
