To my knowledge, no such backward compatibility plugin for J4 exists. Gantry 5 should simply install in J4.
The backward compatibility plugin was introduced as part of Joomla 5. There is no such equivalent in J4.
Is it an existing site you're installing Gantry 5 in, or a clean fresh site?
I would suggest, that for such specific problems, contact Gantry support.
