Hi,
I have pasted a number of Excel data matrix´ into articles using the tinyMCE editor.
I experienced some annoyances as described below.
In Excel I have set some columns very narrow (more narrow than the cell contents).
By default Excel then lets the contents overflow to the next cell(s) (if they are empty),
else only the part of the cell contents that is visible in the cell, is displayed.
UNLESS "wrap text" is activated and the full text is displayed over as many rows (inside the cell), as needed.
1 - HOWEVER, in the pasted table, the set column width is ignored. Instead the column width is adjusted according to the contents of the cells in the column. (As you can make happen by clicking in the column separator in the column head in Excel). I believe that the pasted column should not automatically override the set column width.
2 - I also have a feeling that the column width should be set to a percentage of the page width (rather than a fixed number), to simplify scaling of the table to different screen widths.
3 - I worked around this problem by merging cells horisontally. Then I noted that if more than two cells are selected, then the "Merge Cells" command is greyed out. So in order to merge more than two cells, you have to "Merge Cells" again and again. It seems that should be done by the code when more than two cells are marked to be merged. (Finally I merged the cells already in Excel, which pasted the proper column widths).
4 - Although there is an action for "Select background color for the entire row" in the editor, it does not seem that the tinyMCE can detect that a row has a certain background colour already when imported.
5. Pasting cell borders did not work as expected. I found no way to use the editor to draw "Row separating lines" (or any row borders at all. (it is supposed to work on a cell basis, but...)
Maybe some things will be improved in future updates? Or am I using the wrong editor for this?
Kind regards / zeta77
